Standards and Frameworks

Connecticut's Social Studies Standards

Connecticut adopted its first K-12 social studies standards in October 2023. Developed by teachers with public input and state legislative direction, these standards provide guidance for social studies instruction.

The Connecticut Department of Education, Connecticut Humanities, and the Connecticut Democracy Center supported the project, which was directed by the Connecticut State Department of Education and the Connecticut Council for the Social Studies.

C3 Framework: College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards

The C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards is a powerful guide to help each state strengthen instruction in the social studies by establishing fewer, clearer and higher standards for instruction in civics, economics, geography and history, K-12. The C3 Framework will also be an invaluable tool for teachers, school districts and curriculum writers to strengthen their social studies programs to a) enhance the rigor of the individual disciplines, b) build critical thinking, problem solving and participatory skills vital to engaged citizenship and c) align academic programs to the ‘Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies.
